About Chris
Hi, I’m Chris Grove and I’ll be happy to serve as your host.
For most of my professional life, I’ve worked as an Admissions Representative at the University of Nevada, Reno. Since 2006, I’ve had the privilege of helping students take the next step in their lives. What I’ve learned over the years is that everyone has a story, everyone faces challenges, and sometimes the most meaningful thing we can do is simply listen.
Like so many people, my life changed in 2020.
After the end of a long-term relationship with someone I believed I would spend the rest of my life with, I found myself feeling lost. The pandemic had already left many of us feeling isolated, and suddenly I was trying to figure out not only who I was on my own, but how to reconnect with the world around me.
Over time, I realized I wasn’t the only one asking those questions.
In 2022, I started a YouTube channel centered around one of my lifelong passions—movies. Film has always been more than entertainment to me. Great movies make us laugh, cry, challenge our perspectives, and remind us that we’re all a little more alike than we sometimes think.
I love talking about everything from overlooked gems and forgotten box office successes to cult classics and blockbuster hits. One of my favorite things is introducing someone to a movie they’ve never heard of, only to have it become one of their favorites.
But as the channel grew, I realized I wanted it to be about more than movies.
Some of the conversations that meant the most to me weren’t about cinema at all. They were about heartbreak, loneliness, friendships, careers, family, mental health, and the everyday struggles we all experience but don’t always talk about. Those conversations reminded me why I started creating in the first place—not just to share reviews, but to help create a place where people could feel connected.
That vision was deeply influenced by my late stepfather, James Kavanaugh. James was a former Catholic priest who became a poet, author, and psychologist. In 1982, he created a workshop called Search, inspired by ideas he first explored in the early 1970s.
The purpose of Search was simple but powerful: to bring together people who were lonely, searching for meaning, or simply looking for a place where they could be themselves without judgment. It wasn’t about having all the answers. It was about asking honest questions and walking alongside one another.
I’ve often wondered what Search would look like today.
In many ways, this channel is my attempt to answer that question.
I want this to be a place where we can celebrate great movies, have honest conversations about life, and remind each other that none of us has to navigate life’s challenges alone. Whether you’re here to discover your next favorite film, hear a different perspective, or simply spend time with people who value kindness, curiosity, and genuine conversation, you’re welcome here.
I’m grateful you’re here, and I look forward to getting to know you.
A Little About My Background
- Admissions Representative at the University of Nevada, Reno since 2006.
- Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from the University of Nevada, Reno, with an emphasis in Psychology and Social Work.
- Former Case Manager at Restart, where I facilitated group discussions and worked with individuals experiencing homelessness through referrals from Nevada Mental Health.
- Through both my professional work and my own experiences in individual and group therapy, I’ve come to believe that healing often begins when people feel heard, understood, and connected.
I don’t claim to have all the answers. What I do hope to offer is an open mind, a listening ear, a love of storytelling, and a community where people can come together—through movies, through conversation, and through our shared human experience.
